ESPN to broadcast 11 games of Bound 4 Beijing Tour; KFC Named Title Sponsor

Oklahoma City, Okla. -- The Amateur Softball Association of America (ASA) is pleased to announce that ESPN will feature 11 nationally televised games along the KFC Bound 4 Beijing pre-Olympic tour. Five consecutive weekly national televised games on ESPN2 in April and May along with two other bonus games plus four games slated for July will round out over 22 hours of original USA Softball branded programming on the ESPN family of networks.

“We are thrilled to be working with ESPN again this year,” said 2004 Olympic Gold Medalist Jennie Finch. “Their support of the sport of softball is outstanding. They have continued to raise the bar in the World Cup broadcasts and to be able to display this team’s talent on national television as we prepare for the Olympic Games in Beijing is tremendous.”

“Softball continues to deliver solid upward rating trends for our networks,” said Associate Manager of Programming for ESPN Laura Sandillo. “We look forward to showcasing what’s going to be one of the top teams competing this summer in Beijing.”

KFC has been named title sponsor of the Bound 4 Beijing Tour marking the second year in a row that the KFC Corporation has pledged it support to the Amateur Softball Association and the USA Softball brand. As part of KFC’s agreement with ASA, they will receive commercial inventory, in game features and other sponsor elements in each show in addition to retail player appearances by members of the USA Softball team that will compete this summer at the Beijing Summer Olympics.

“The USA Softball Women’s National Team will be one of the top five most talked about stories going into Beijing and thanks to the partnership we have established with KFC and ESPN, we are in a position to showcase the amazing ability of our players and coaches,” said ASA Executive Director Ron Radigonda. “In 2004, Sports Illustrated declared our national team as ‘America’s Real Dream Team’ on its cover and we look forward to continuing this tradition of excellence throughout 2008.”

Team USA will compete in 62 games during the tour against top NCAA Division I opponents, Regional All-Star opponents as well as International Competition. Below is the ESPN Schedule.
