OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. – The University of Alabama kept its grip on the No. 1 spot, for the second consecutive week, in the ESPN.com/USA Softball Collegiate Top 25 Pollannounced today by the Amateur Softball Association. The Tide went 5-0 at the Adidas Golden Panther Invitational to extend their record to 15-0, one of only four teams in the Top 25 with an undefeated record.
All teams remained the same in the Top 5 with only one switch in the Top 10. After going 2-3 at the Palm Springs Classic, LSU (9-3) dropped to No. 12 after tying for seventh in last week’s poll. The Tigers suffered losses to ranked opponents Northwestern and Arizona as well as an opening tournament loss to Florida Atlantic. No. 8 Stanford (15-1) suffered a loss in the final game of the Palm Springs Classic to Texas, 3-1, but big wins over ranked opponents Oklahoma, UNLV and Ohio State put Stanford into the Top 10.
Also highlighting the Top 25 is No.4 UCLA (13-2) who was an impressive 5-0 at the Palm Springs Classic. All but one of the games were against ranked opponents with the other win against a UMass team, who received votes. Fresno State, North Carolina and Texas all entered the Top 25 while Cal State Fullerton, Washington and UNLV dropped out.
The Pac-10 Conference leads the way with four of its members ranked in the Top 10, with two in the Top 5. The SEC boasts three schools while the Big 12 has two in the Top 10. The Big Ten Conference has one school, No. 5 Northwestern, in the Top 10.
