ASA Championship Season
7/16/2009

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. – Besides regular season play, there is another season players look forward to—the championship season. Beginning with the Women’s 23-Under Fast Pitch National Championship in Sterling, Va., on Wednesday, the Amateur Softball Association of America (ASA) Championship Season will crown champions in 130 plus divisions competing in fast pitch, slow pitch and modified pitch through the first weekend of October.

Players ranging in age from 10 to 75-years-old will take to the diamonds in pursuit of the coveted ASA National Championship banner after earning a berth in one of the numerous ASA qualifying tournaments.

“ASA has opportunities for people of all ages and skill levels to play in a championship tournament,” said John Miller, Assistant Director of Membership Services for Teams and Championships for ASA. “Besides the competition, the tournaments give various communities an economic boost while helping tourism.”

More than 30,000 players from throughout the United States will compete in ASA National Championships. Some teams will be eliminated in two games and head home while others will advance and maybe even play for an ASA National Championship.

But no matter the outcome, at least they got a chance to play an in ASA National Championship tournament. Even if they did not come home with a championship banner, there is always the thrill and excitement of playing in an ASA National Championship, and next year to rekindle the hopes and desires of winning the title of “National Champion.”
