OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. The Amateur Softball Association of America (ASA), the National Governing Body of softball in the United States, recently announced that Stu Alderman has been named the commissioner of the Detroit ASA. He started his position on Nov. 11.
It is an extreme honor to be named commissioner of Metro Detroit, Alderman said. We have a dedicated and committed board that has worked together throughout my 32 years of involvement. And I know that this will continue in the future to bring The Best in Softball to teams, players and umpires in the Detroit area.
Alderman has been involved with the Detroit ASA since 1977. During that time, he has served as the associate commissioner as well as three terms as president (1984, 1990 and 1991). For 15 years, he has served ASA beyond the Detroit area as the Great Lake Regional player representative. He has also been a ASA council member since 1995.
Stu has been a great asset to the Amateur Softball Association not only in his metro area but on the national level as well, said ASA Director of Membership Services Craig Cress. We appreciate his positive impact on our organization and look forward to seeing how the Detroit ASA thrives under his leadership. We know his contributions will only help continue the strong tradition of softball in the Detroit area.
Professionally, Alderman has worked for the City of Troy (Mich.) Parks and Recreation Department since October 1985, serving as the superintendent of recreation and the recreation supervisor. He has also worked for the City of Oak Park, Mich.
He received his Bachelor of Arts in Journalism from Oakland University. Alderman also holds a Masters of Science in Public Administration from Central Michigan University.
