USA Softball game versus WPSL Gold to be aired "Live" on ESPN

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK---USA Softball will continue its 2001 USA Softball Shootout in Los Angeles as each of its national teams takes on a team from the Women's Pro Softball League (WPSL). USA Red will face the WPSL Gold on Sunday, June 17 at 2 p.m. CST. The game will be aired throughout the country "Live" on ESPN. This will mark the first USA Softball game ever aired "Live" on any network.



The game will feature the past, present and future of USA Softball. Lisa Fernandez (Long Beach, CA) and Sheila Douty (Diamond Bar, CA) will lead a team filled with Olympic gold medalist into battle against USA Red, one of the current USA Softball Women's National Teams.



2000 Olympic gold medalist Stacey Nuveman (LaVerne, CA) and 18-year old pitching phenom Catherine Osterman (Houston, TX) will lead the charge for USA Red.



USA Red will represent USA Softball, June 20-24, at the 2001 U.S. Cup in Honolulu, HI. The tournament will be the first rematch between the USA and Olympic silver medalist Japan, bronze medalist Australia and fourth place finisher China.



USA Blue will play in the second half of the double-header against the WPSL All-Stars at 4 p.m. CST. in a tape delayed game to be aired on ESPN2. USA Blue will continue its summer competitions at the 2001 Canada Cup
