USA Softball athlete among nominees for ‘Most Popular’

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK –In the latest ESPN.com/Page2 poll tagged ‘Senior Superlatives’, ESPN.com is asking voters to cast their vote on a number of superlatives directed towards athletes gaining attention during 2003. Atop the list is the “Most Popular Athlete” nomination where USA Softball pitcher and 2002 World Champion gold medalist Jennie Finch is among the nation’s elite including Tiger Woods, Annika Sorenstam, LeBron James, and the Rally Monkey.

The 6’1” Arizona graduate and pitching sensation has captured two previous polls on the ESPN.com/Page 2 site being tagged the ‘Hottest Female Athlete’ and ‘Wacky Bracket Champion’ during March Madness. Beating out names such as Brittany Spears, Anna Kournikova, and Christina Aguilera, Finch was a two-time Honda award winner for the top softball collegiate athlete and holds the NCAA record for most consecutive wins at 60.

On June 4-8 the 2003 National Women’s Team Selection camp will take place in Chula Vista, CA where the women’s national team selection committee will choose the top 18 athletes for the 2003 USA Softball Women’s National team. Finch is among the 50 athletes invited to earn a spot on the team which will be officially announced on June 9.

The Amateur Softball Association, founded in 1933, is the National Governing Body of amateur softball in the United States and a member of the United States Olympic Committee.
