OKLAHOMA CITY, OK--USA Softball announced today the 17 players chosen to represent the USA at the 2003 ISF Junior Women's World Championships, October 12-20 in Nanjing, China. These players were selected after a three day tryout camp held August 12-14 in Salem, Ore.

The coaches selected to lead this team are head coach Pam Newton (Rialto, CA), assistant coach Chuck D'Arcy (Sacramento, CA) and assistant coach Mike Gonzalez (Mission Viejo, CA).
The U.S. earned a berth into the World Championships after winning the Pan Am Region championship in December. Under first year head coach Pam Newton, the USA Softball Junior Women's National Team totally dominated its competition at the championship in Hermosillo, Mexico. The USA posted a perfect 8-0 record, while outscoring its opponents 91-0. Additionally, the U.S. pitching staff combined for four no-hitters and two perfect games.
The United States captured gold at the 1987 and 1995 ISF Junior Women's World Championships. In 1999, the last Junior Women's World Championship, the USA finished second behind Japan.
The Amateur Softball Association, founded in 1933, is the National Governing Body of Softball in the United States and a member of the United States Olympic Committee.
As the National Governing Body, the ASA is responsible for identifying, selecting and training male and female athletes to compete in World, Pan American and Olympic competitions. In addition to those duties, the ASA conducts the only recognized National Championship competitions in the United States.
