Oklahoma City, OK----By a unanimous vote by the Amateur Softball Association Board of Director’s, Columbus, Ohio ASA has been removed as an independent association and combined with the Ohio ASA Association. These two associations will now be the Ohio ASA Association and will be run by Commissioner Howard Honaker of the Ohio ASA Association.
This vote took place during a meeting held December 5 via a conference call. With the deletion of the Columbus association, the ASA is now comprised of 91 local associations representing every state in the country. The Cincinnati ASA Association, Cleveland ASA Association and the Dayton ASA Association remain unchanged as local associations within the state of Ohio.
The ASA was founded in 1933 and has evolved into the strongest softball organization in the country. The growth and development of the association led the United States Olympic Committee (USOC) to name the ASA as the National Governing Body of Softball, pursuant to the Amateur Sports Act of 1978.
