Athens, Greece-USA Softball right-handed pitcher Jennie Finch (La Mirada, CA) will make her Olympic debut on Saturday when she faces Italy at 12 p.m. Athens Time, 4:00 am central. The game will be aired live on CNBC. Finch was tabbed as the starter late Friday night just prior to the opening ceremonies of the 2004 Olympic Games.
She faced the Italian National Team twice in April while participating in an exhibition tour in Pisa, Italy. In seven innings of work, Finch was credited with a win, a save and allowed only two hits while fanning 14 batters.
The U.S. will continue round-robin play on Sunday, August 15 when it faces arch-rival Australia at 5 p.m.
The U.S. has been ranked No. 1 in the world for the past 18-consecutive years and has captured the only Olympic gold medals that have been contested in the sport.
