USA and Australia to compete in Pacific Challenge
7/15/2003

Oklahoma City, OK----The Amateur Softball Association of America is pleased to announce that International Softball competition will return to the Bay Area. The USA Softball Elite Team will play a series of doubleheaders versus the Australian National Team in what will surely be an exciting match up. Dubbed the “Pacific Challenge” the games will pit some of the best players from two continents against each other as both countries begin preparing their athletes for competition in the 2004 Summer Olympic Games.

The USA Elite Team just captured the 2003 Canada Cup title after defeating Australia 2-0 in the final game. The USA Elite met Australia three-times during the Canada Cup and holds a 2-1 advantage in head-to-head play.

There will be three opportunities for fans to catch the teams in action with the first pitch scheduled for 7:00pm each night:

Boyd and Jill Smith Family Stadium

Stanford University

Palo Alto, CA

Thursday, July 17th

Twin Creeks Sports Complex

969 Caribbean Drive

Sunnyvale, CA

Friday, July 18th

Larry Standley Field

George Weekes Memorial Park

27182 Patrick Avenue

Hayward, CA

Tickets will be available at each venue beginning at 5:30pm. No advance tickets will be sold. General admission tickets are $10.00 each for adults and youth. Half-price tickets will also be available for those who can provide proof of ASA registration (ASA Membership Card, Virtual Tournament Director I.D. Card or Letter of Team Registration). Only cash purchases will be accepted.

This will be a great opportunity for softball fans of all ages to see the best of the best play the sport they love. At this time we do not know who will be on the Team USA roster but if any more information becomes available it will be posted at the Northern California ASA web site at www.nor-calstate-asa.org.
