The Attwater Yammers Victorious After Six-game Sweep
COLLEGE STATION/BRYAN, Texas—Fourteen-year-old athletes and younger came from all over the west to compete in College Station, Texas August 1-7 for the Girls' West Class B 14-U Fast Pitch National Championship title. The Attwater Yammers (Attwater, Calif.) entered the tournament with a bye and went for a straight sweep in all of their games, ending with a perfect record of 6-0.
After receiving a bye in the beginning of the tournament, the Attwater Yammers came out with a bang and beat the Galveston Her-icanes (Galveston, Texas.) 19-4. The Her-icanes were not the only team to get beat offensively by the Attwater Yammers. In game two the Attwater Yammers faced the Porterville Predators (Porterville, Calif.) and put 11 runs on the board only giving up 2. They continued to score in the double digits in games three and four, overpowering every defense. Dominating the winner’s bracket, they faced the Paramount (Paramount, Calif.) winning game three 11-1 and then captured game four against W.A.G.S. (Agoura, Calif.) 10-1.
However, its offensive game did not appear intimidating to the West Texas Burn (Midland, Texas). The Attwater Yammers played the West Texas Burn in the closest game they played in the tournament, barely coming out on top with a 4-3 win, resulting in a bid to the championship. Offensively making a come back after the last game, the Attwater Yammers claimed their title after overcoming the P.Q. Lightning (San Diego, Calif.) 8-3 in the final.
